Who we are?

Corrigan Home is a privately owned Community Care Facility providing superior quality care in positive surroundings for seniors. Functioning under the Community Care and Nursing act Regulations of Prince Edward Island.

Corrigan Home provides twenty-four-hour supervisory care while supporting each resident in his/her quest to achieve and sustain optimal health.

Corrigan Home is a smoke free facility; however residents are provided with an outside designated smoking area.


What we do?

Our company provides 24 hour assisted care to individuals, in a family style environment.

Residents are encouraged to be as independent as is safe and comfortable. As if they were in their own homes.

Our team provide home cooked meals, baked goods and desserts following the Canadian Food Guide and prepares special diets as required.

We provide help with personal cares and support whenever needed or requested.

Corrigan Home shall demonstrate a consistent effort to deliver optimal care.

Each resident is the focus of the holistic approach taken toward resident care by the co-operative care team of the Home.

Corrigan Home believes that every individual has the right to live in an atmosphere that supports the right to equality, dignity, respect, and to provide families the confidence that their loved ones are in a safe and caring environment.

Families are considered an essential element in the quality of life of our residents.

Subject to the wishes of the residents, and to the extent they are able to provide a positive contribution, families will be informed and involved in residents’ care, and invited to participate in the resident’s social schedule.

While respecting the residents right to privacy and dignity, we commit to regular, open communication with immediate family members.

Corrigan Home believes that superior care can only be provided by professional, dedicated, and well-trained staff who work together as a team.

We commit to provide a workplace that supports the professionalism and dignity of all employees.

We commit to open and honest communication. We will encourage initiative from staff in decision making and provide continuing in-service education.

Corrigan Home considers quality assurance as an essential part of the management system, and commits to meet all relevant public health, fire, emergence, and safety requirements.


Resident Admission

Upon admission, staff chart any valuables residents bring into the facility.

Residents are responsible for their own valuables.

If residents prefer to send a valuable home with a family member, they are requested to advise staff so this can be noted on the list of valuables maintained in the facility.

Below is listed some information that is based on frequently asked questions:

Residents may come and go from the facility at their leisure…

Residents may come and go from the facility at their leisure, provided they are safe to do so, or are safely accompanied by family or friends. Staff must be advised anytime a resident is leaving the property. This is to ensure that any medications, treatments or care needs may be addressed. This includes any short outings or extended absences.

Personal likes and dislikes of food…

Personal likes and dislikes of food are always taken into consideration, also special diets. The cook will discuss likes and dislikes with the resident on admission day. This information will be recorded.

A foot care nurse is available on site on a six week rotation…

A foot care nurse is available on site on a six week rotation. The nurse will meet with residents to discuss and assess the resident’s needs and payment options.

A hairdresser is available on site weekly…

A hairdresser is available on site weekly. Residents pay for this service on their own. Note: Staff assist with washing hair during bathing. at no charge.

Residents retain their own physician…

Residents retain their own physician. If an incoming resident does not have a family doctor, our house Dr. Peter Hooley will take them on as a patient, our residents will always have access to a doctor.

All medications…

All medications(prescribed or over the counter) are stored in a locked medication cart and are administered by staff.

Residents are responsible for purchasing personal…

Residents are responsible for purchasing personal toiletries, clothing and medications not covered by seniors’ funding or insurance plans.

Personal spiritual practices are respected…

Personal spiritual practices are respected. Clergy are welcomed to perform services to which all are welcome regardless of denomination. Rosary is available on Monday and Friday.

On site activities are provided for residents…

On site activities are provided for residents. These are scheduled and posted. These include regular activities such as bingo as well as special musical entertainment.

Any items brought into the facility…

Any items brought into the facility that are not purchased new, directly from a retail outlet, must be assessed for safety and cleaning by staff prior to being placed in a resident’s room. This includes electronics, clothing, bedding, pictures, books, etc. This is to prevent any unwanted contaminants being brought into the building.

Visitors are welcome to visit…

Visitors are welcome to visit with residents until 9:00 pm daily. Visitors are asked to be mindful of others while they are in the facility.
Visitors are welcome to bring pets to visit loved ones: however, they must keep them on a leash and be respectful that other residents may not be comfortable with animals

Complaints and Concerns:

  • Residents are encouraged to bring any complaints, concerns or suggestions to the attention of management.
  • Management is available to residents or family members to discuss and address any complaints, concerns or suggestions.

Every resident may expect the following rights:

* TO THE NECESSITIES OF LIFE

* TO A COMFORTABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENT

* TO RETAIN PERSONAL POSSESSIONS AND CLOTHING (AS SPACE PERMITS)

* TO PRIVACY IN THEIR PERSONAL SPACE AS WELL AS FOR PERSONAL HYGIENE NEEDS

* TO MEET WITH AND PARTICIPATE IN SOCIAL AND RELIGIOUS GROUPS

* TO BE INFORMED OF THEIR MEDICAL CONDITION AND TO PARTICIPATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN THE DECISION-MAKING REGARDING
TREATMENT

* TO BE INFORMED OF THE AVAILABILITY AND CHARGES OF ANY TREATMENTS AND PROCEDURES

* TO CONFIDENTIAL TREATMENT OF RECORDS

* NOT TO BE INVOLUNTARILY TRANSFERRED OR DISCHARGED FROM THE FACILITY WITHOUT NOTICE AND DUE CAUSE

* TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER FACILITY AT THE DISCRETION OF THE RESIDENT AND THEIR SPONSOR, WITH PROPER WRITTEN 30 DAY
